cellist, cello teacher and composer

Katharina Schirk is an Austrian cellist, cello teacher and composer. She began taking cello lessons at the local music school at the age of seven.

She went on to study with Diethard Auner at the Josef Matthias Hauer Konservatorium in Wiener Neustadt, and subsequently with Stefan Kropfitsch and Othmar Müller at the Joseph Haydn Konservatorium in Eisenstadt.
Katharina has also participated in various masterclasses, studying with renowned cellists such as Valter Dešpalj, Julius Berger, Mats Lidström, Reinhard Latzko and Patrick Demenga.
 
Her concert activities span from solo appearances to collaborations with various ensembles in Austria and abroad, including performances in the Haydnsaal of Schloss Esterházy, the Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt, Schloss Wartholz and Kulturschloss Reichenau. Her role as section leader of the Haydn Orchestra Eisenstadt has further broadened her musical experience.
 
Katharina Schirk is also a composer. She has written commissioned works for the Vienna Mozart Trio, violinist Daniel Auner, and the duo Karin and Doris Adam. She also composed pieces for many students at music universities and conservatoires. Her compositions have been performed at renowned venues such as the Wiener Musikverein and the Haydnsaal at Schloss Esterházy. Her piano piece "Das kleine Nashorn" (The Little Rhinoceros) was published in the anthology "Vorhang auf", and her album "Mein Cello lädt zum Tanzen ein" (My Cello Invites You to Dance) was published by Doblinger.
 
She has worked as a cello teacher on projects including the Youth Symphony Orchestra Burgenland and the Music Workshop in Bad Fischau. She currently teaches at the Musikschule Oberes Schwarzatal.
